Welsh: The Ash Grove

Sounds like it's saying “Give me some figgy pudding and bring it right here!” but this old Welsh melody has a longer history than the real figgy pudding. This set of lyrics is about finding memories of the dear departed among the branches.

The ash grove, how graceful, how plainly 'tis speaking;
The lark through its branches is gazing on me,
When over its branches the sunlight is breaking,
A host of kind faces is gazing on me.
The friends of my childhood again are before me;
Each step wakes a memory as freely I roam.
With soft whispers laden the leaves rustle o'er me;
The ash grove, the ash grove alone is my home.
