Swedish: Gaudete, Christus Est Natus

“Gaudete!” is Latin for “Rejoice!” This medieval song was collected in the Finnish book Pie Cantiones by Theodoricus Petri in 1582. It became a popular hit in 1973 when sung a cappella by the English folk rock group Steeleye Span (see first youtube below).

Gaudēte, gaudēte!
Chrīstus est nātus
Ex Marīā virgine,
gaudēte!

Tempus adest grātiae
Hoc quod optābāmus,
Carmina laetitiae
Dēvōtē reddāmus.
