This work could not have been accomplished without all the public domain music that is freely available in the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP). Its founder, Edward Guo, also provided valuable consultations to ensure this work could itself be included in IMSLP.

Motivation for this work came from the Boulder Guitar Society, some of whose members, namely James Venk, Adam Buer, Michael Bellmont, Mark Limber and Toby Gallegos, made numerous suggestions on the pieces that were included and offered helpful comments and encouragement.

The greatest acknowledgement goes to guitarist Dennis Burns, my mentor and playing partner, who advised me weekly throughout the eight years in which this project was under development and probably played or commented on the arrangement of every piece in this series of books, making nearly as many suggestions for improvement. He is a good friend, a skilled guitarist and an excellent sight reader.

Note that the same base name is used for multiple exercises in the typical case where the same melody is rendered in multiple octaves to exercise different positions.

Some melodies may be derived from multiple sources and therefore have multiple entries below. Where page numbers are provided, e.g. within a book of melodies, the page numbers are those in the pdf file rather than the original text.
