Group C Exercises: Position VII Higher Notes

For some ledger lines above the staff

Exercises in this group may span position VII including its high range above the staff, giving you a few ledger lines to read. It may help to remember the G-B-D triad sits with G on top of the staff and the other notes stacked close above.

Fretboard diagram for position VII higher notes

This adds the four notes that are too high for position I and completes a nice two octave range in the key of C.

Scales to practice across position VII

Scale 8. The two octave diatonic scale. This comfortable fingering pattern can be shifted up and down the neck as a warm-up practice to gradually stretch the left hand (memorize!).

Scale 9. Two octaves in thirds. Fits perfectly in the full range of position VII.

Scale 10. Toccata triads over position VII.

Scale 11. Rise and fall to each scale degree in the higher octave of position VII.
